Primary Schools Competitions 

Basketball has incredible rates of participation through our Primary Schools  and Intermediate Competitions. In 2020, we had approximately 110 teams playing in these competitions. Grassroots basketball in South Canterbury is stronger than ever. 

Primary Schools basketball is a great opportunity for school age kids to fall in love with the sport, all the way developing skills in team work, communication, fair play, coordination and more. Plus it's a whole lot of fun!

The year groups run at different times of the year, and are in conjunction with skills, coaching and referee clinics. 

Primary Competition

Years 3/4 - over school terms 3 & 4, at the Southern Trust Events Centre - Single gender teams, non competitive, uses a size 5 basketball and 8ft hoop. 

Years 5/6 - over school terms 3 & 4, at the Southern Trust Events Centre - Single gender teams, competitive, uses a size 5 basketball and 10ft hoop. 

Intermediate Competition

Years 7/8 - over school terms 1 & 2, at the Southern Trust Events Centre - Single gender teams, competitive, uses a size 6 ball (girls) and size 7 ball (boys), standard hoops.
